As part of a university project, I redesigned the logo of the record label Grönland Records by Herbert Grönemeyer. My aim was to come up with a responsive logo with a reasonable readability that would fit on all label related products, with no limitations to size.
When I first saw the name "Grönland Records" the German umlaut "ö" immediately caught my attention. After working on their name for a while, I really wanted to embrace the umlaut. The label itself had in fact decided to stick to the German representation of their name, instead of adapting to the "oe" international version, even though they work with international creators and companies. In the end I truly like how the umlaut acts as an icon itself and is shaped like a speaker in an abstract way – all this is product of experimentation.
